St. Luke’s Hospital, Thessaloniki, Greece
2023 - 2023
During my time at St. Luke’s Hospital in Thessaloniki, Greece, I completed 90 hours of shadowing across various specialties. My responsibilities included greeting patients, directing them from the waiting area to treatment rooms, communicating professionally about their medical history, and taking vitals. I also assisted a pathologist with basic procedures under his supervision. The most difficult part of this shadowing experience was seeing the reality of how patients are in the ICU. It was shocking yet educational to see the condition of those patients, where even though they are being treated as well as possible, they have a low chance of survival. This experience greatly enhanced my understanding of patient care and medical procedures in a hospital setting, showing me the reality of how medicine can be, which further solidified my passion for the medical field.

2023 - Today
I am currently a probie, actively working towards my EMT certification. My responsibilities include assisting EMTs and paramedics with patient care, conducting thorough checks on ambulances to ensure all BLS equipment is present, and taking basic vitals and blood glucose levels, while getting trained to conduct patient care. One of the most challenging experiences was dealing with a cardiac arrest case involving a chaotic environment and an aggressive family, where despite high-quality CPR and ALS intervention, the patient could not be resuscitated. Even with all the challenges though, volunteering in EMS quickly became one of my favorite activities. While helping out my local community, I am able to apply my training and knowledge in real-life scenarios to help save a person in need. My goal is to become an EMT and apply to medical school with aspirations to become an orthopedic surgeon.
